The Department of Food Technology is one of the leading academic departments of Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. The department takes pride in its teaching staff consisting of specialists in all kinds of food-related fields, from theory to application.
We offer courses in the area of food chemistry, food microbiology, food physics and engineering, food product development and sensory evaluation, functional foods, food preservation and packaging, food quality, safety and regulations, nutrients and food processing.
Other than gaining scientific knowledge, our students also learn the essential skills such as communication skills, presentation skills, critical thinking, teamwork, problem solving and leadership skills which are valuable to employers. The students get the professional food technology practice through industrial training, research projects, field visits, workshops and foreign collaborations.
