Bachelor of Biosystems Technology in Food Technology

The Food Technology degree curriculum encompasses subjects primarily focusing on food chemistry, food microbiology, food analysis, product development and food safety & legislations. The ultimate goal of the programme is to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills and attitude to be market-ready for employment opportunities in the country in Food Technology and related disciplines. Students taking up this programme will be able to engage in research and development which nurtures innovative and analytical thinking, both of which are an essential aspects in the industry and academia in the country. 

1.  Ability to apply knowledge of basic sciences and biosystems technology fundamentals
2.  In-depth technical competence in food technology
3. Ability to apply existing knowledge and critical thinking skills for problem identification, formulation and solution
4. Ability to utilize innovative approaches to address arising problems in food related industries
5. Ability to communicate effectively with audiences of varying biosystems technology background and general public
6. Ability to function effectively as an individual in multi-disciplinary teams with the capacity to be a leader or an effective team member
7. Understanding the responsibilities of a professional food technologist and commitment to the standards of professional integrity and ethical values
8. Understanding the principles of sustainable development
9. Understanding the need of lifelong learning and exhibiting the skills to respond and adapt to dynamic environment
10. Ability to contribute to the Sri Lankan economy by becoming entrepreneurs who can initiate medium or large-scale industries
