Dr Neelaka Molagoda joined the department of Bioprocess Technology Faculty of Technology, in November 2021. He obtained a scholarship for postgraduate studies at Jeju National University from March 2016, onwards where he got the hands on experience of culturing a wide range of animal cells including primary cells and cell lines, in-vivo zebrafish handling and microinjections and several cutting edge biotechnology-related techniques such as bacterial transformation, small interference RNA (siRNA) mediated gene silencing, PCR, western blot analysis, flow cytometry, enzyme activity assays and confocal microscopy etc. Furthermore, he has explored the mechanisms of drug actions in several nutraceuticals focusing on anti- inflammatory, anti oxidative, anti-cancer, anti-melanogenic, anti-angiogenic activities as well as the effect on osteoblast differentiation and growth promotion etc. His PhD project was based on “Discovering various pharmaceutical aspects of dietary flavonoid fisetin including anti- inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and melanogenic effects as well as the effect on osteoblast differentiation” and awarded with the Dean’s award for the Excellent PhD research. Prior to converting to doctorate, I was awarded an M.Sc. in Life Sciences at Jeju University with first class honors.
He also possessed a four-year BSc. degree in Agriculture Technology and Management, specializing in Agricultural Biology from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He holds an Honors Degree with a Second Class Upper. Additionally, he was awarded with S. F. H. Perera memorial prize for the Best Final Year Academic Performances based on his excellent academic merit.
